How To Make Working From Home Work For You

Posted by DataJobEntry.com on March 8, 2008 at 4:35 AM

The dream of working from home is a strong one. But how often does working from home work for people? I believe that it is much harder than people think for several reasons. The first and most obvious barrier is finding appropriate employment that will support your work from home desires. Many employers simply don't entertain this arrangement, although I'm seeing that attitude change quickly given the difficulty of recruiting talent.

There is an entirely different class of folks trying to make working from home work by pursuing self-employment. These folks have a slightly different dream. In addition to the desire for freedom and independence, they also aspire to develop their own revenue stream to support their work arrangement. If this is your direction, I applaud you. However, there are also several warnings that you should consider to ensure your decision is informed.

1) It is much, much harder to develop your own revenue streams than it is to find a flexible employer who will give you a job from home. There are employers who will employ you from a distance. You will be challenged by not being in the office, but it can be done.

2) Starting your own business brings much greater stress to you and your family. On top of the normal stresses of working from home, out of the office, you will have the added pressure of starting a business. This is not to be taken lightly. You will find many web sites proclaiming that you can instantly bring up a significant income stream overnight with only a few hours of work per day. This is pure fantasy. You should run from any web site that suggests this is possible. As much as you want to believe it, it simply isn't reality. To make working from home work, you will need to put in significant effort and planning.

3) Many people who try to support themselves working from home fail. This is an important consideration as you map your path. Certainly, working for someone else has risks. You can be laid-off or fired for performance. However, when you are out there on your own, the risks are much much greater. You can simply have a bad month or make some bad expense decisions. When you are working from home by yourself, it's hard to know the right moves. Please be aware of the dangers.

If you've gotten to this point and are still convinced that you can make working from home work despite the odds, I have several suggestions for how to get started:

A) Start your home business while you're still working for someone else

B) Do careful research before making any decisions

C) Try to start your business as inexpensively as possible

Keep in mind that very few businesses get off the ground without a few false starts. That's why it is so important to fail as inexpensively as possible. If you can manage to keep your expenses low while you work through the inevitable experimentation that is required to start a business, you have a greater shot at making it. Even better, do this experimentation part-time while you're still on someone else's payroll. If you can have a full year head-start while still working your old job, you will really be ahead of the game.

For those just starting out, I highly recommend DataJobEntry.com as an inexpensive way to start a part-time business before you quit your day job. The key is that it's easy enough that you can start to build out your business part-time while you're still working. This will give you the runway you need to see what works and what doesn't. It will also help you learn what you like and what you don't about working for yourself. In the end, if you take this approach, you are much more likely to make working from home work for yourself.

Now What Do I Do ?

Posted by DataJobEntry.com on February 29, 2008 at 5:04 AM Comments comments (0)

So, you've made the decision to go out on your own and finally leave that nine to five slavery. You can't stand the thought of working for anyone else any longer with all the office politics, long commute, taking work home almost every night or on the weekend. You've longed to be free to do what you want to do, and that is work from your own home able to set your own hours, and with the opportunity to finally realize rewards for yourself not because you have to work for someone else's financial gain.

The hardest decision has been made. You know you are ready to strike out on your own, but how do you get started. This question is one of the most burning questions for those who've finally come to their last rope. You know there is no choice.

If you have decided that you want to go it alone, one of the usual ways is to buy a franchise, or start your own business. But, what if you truly want to work at home, not from home? Well, one of the ways to stay perched on your own turf is to get involved in an online business or multiple online businesses. The first thing to consider is how much you already know about online businesses. Have you tried any before, or have you just been dabbling. Dabbling won't cut it because there is no burning commitment to succeed. So what if it doesn't pay off, you still have your job.

You need to adopt the attitude that an online business is your future, not just a passing fad. You need to have a burning desire to succeed or all your hit and miss time is just that - hit and miss, nothing is really accomplished. One way to start, is to set a goal, a financial goal so that you can see this dollar reward firmly etched in your mind. You then have to set a goal to learn what you need to learn about online businesses by visiting a few good web sites that will give you a good grounding in the basics. And, lest you think that all you have to do is set up a web site and the money will come rolling in, you're dead wrong. Further, if you think that you are going to make money overnight, you're also dead wrong.

Online businesses are just like any other successful business. You have to work hard, work consistently, continuously learn, and understand that any profitable and successful business takes time to create. Unfortunately, there are a lot of get rich quick schemes that are prevalent on the web. I know, because I've let myself get sucked into a few of them. The mistake is that a real business doesn't happen overnight - this point must be stressed over and over again to anyone thinking that fortunes are made quickly.

You, therefore, may wish to consider setting up an action learning schedule so that you can learn the ins and outs of online businesses, and you may want to strongly consider starting part-time in order to give yourself the opportunity to make enough money that you can financially meet your obligations before you quit your full-time job.

Powerful Technique to Drive Traffic To Your Site

Posted by DataJobEntry.com on February 22, 2008 at 4:09 PM Comments comments (1)

Getting folks to visit your site is a basic requirement if you hope to make good money, or if you want to build-up a readership or a list. It's not that you want just any visitor, but rather you want to get visitors with an interest in your topic or product. There are a number of techniques that a good webmaster will use to create a web site that draws strong traffic. One technique is that of using a blog with your web site.

Placing a blog on your domain in conjunction with your web site is one of the "must do" techniques that professional webmasters use to help generate traffic. It is very easy to sign-up for a free blog at blogger.com The trick is to then go into the advanced set-up features to host that blog on your own domain. That is actually easy to do. It can be done by just filling out a half dozen fields with the info to point to your domain.

Many webmasters place the blog on the homepage and then create the rest of the site behind that blog. That's a great technique. It's easy to do and the search engines seem to like the constantly updated content of the blog on the homepage. It's important to update the blog regularly and to place your original content on the blog. Try not to simply post articles from the various article directories.

Since most webmasters either have someone write their original content or they do that themselves by creating 5, 10 or more blog posts in one sitting, they then use a blog posting automator to spread out the postings over time. There are a couple good tools on the market for that. If you've ever blogged you know how tiring it can be to have to log-on to your blog each day or every few days and post content. It is much easier to load all the content to a queue, select the posting schedule and then let the blog automator do the posting for you. It's a huge relief and important for keeping your blog fresh.

The bottom line is that using a blog that is hosted on your domain is one important technique for every webmaster who wants to attract traffic to sell a product or to build up a list of readers or customers.

Origins and early history of eBay (Funny side)

Origins and early history of eBay (Funny side)

The online auction web site was founded in San Jose, California on September 3, 1995 by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar as AuctionWeb, part of a larger personal site that included, among other things, Omidyar's own tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Ebola virus. The very first item sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer for $14.83. Astonished, Omidyar contacted the winning bidder and asked if he understood that the laser pointer was broken. In his responding email, the buyer explained: "I'm a collector of broken laser pointers." The frequently repeated story that eBay was founded to help Omidyar's fiancée trade PEZ Candy dispensers was fabricated by a public relations manager in 1997 to interest the media. This was revealed in Adam Cohen's 2002 book and confirmed by eBay.

Chris Agarpao was hired as eBay's first employee and Jeff Skoll was hired as the first president of the company in 1996. In November 1996, eBay entered into its first third-party licensing deal, with a company called Electronic Travel Auction to use SmartMarket Technology to sell plane tickets and other travel products. The company officially changed the name of its service from AuctionWeb to eBay in September 1997. Originally, the site belonged to Echo Bay Technology Group, Omidyar's consulting firm. Omidyar had tried to register the domain name echobay.combut found it already taken by the Echo Bay Mines, a gold mining company, so he shortened it to his second choice, eBay.com.

eBay went public in 1998, and both Omidyar and Skoll became instant billionaires. This was a little bit about Ebays history.

Profit and Transaction How it works?

eBay generates revenue from a number of fees. The eBay fee system is quite complex; there are fees to list a product and fees when the product sells, plus several optional fees, all based on various factors and scales. The U.S.-based ebay.com takes $0.20 to $80 per listing and 5.25% or less of the final price (as of 2007). The UK based ebay.co.uk (ebay.co.uk offices) takes from GBP £0.15 to a maximum rate of GBP £3 per 100 for an ordinary listing and from 0.75% to 5.25% of the final price. In addition, eBay now owns the PayPal payment system which has fees of its own.

Under current U.S. law, a state cannot require sellers located outside the state to collect a sales tax, making deals more attractive to buyers. Although state laws require purchasers to pay sales tax to their own states on out-of-state purchases, most people ignore this requirement.

The company's current business strategy includes increasing revenue by increasing international trade within the eBay system. eBay has already expanded to almost two dozen countries including China and India. The only places where expansion failed were Taiwan and Japan, where Yahoo! had a head start.

eBay Powerseller, a part of SurveyNew, Inc program. Building Powerseller status with your eBay seller account creates additional sales and gives you respect within the ebay community. A Powerseller is an experienced ebay seller who maintains the ebay standards for seller excellence on a continual basis. Standards that ANYONE can achieve.
